Chavonnes Battery Museum

The Chavonnes Battery Museum celebrates the life, death and re-birth of Cape Town’s oldest major fortification except for the Castle of Good Hope.

Discovered during the initial construction of the Clock Tower Precinct in 1999, the fascinating ruins of this Dutch East India Company military installation date back to 1724.

It is thought to have remained in operation throughout the occupation of the Cape, finally being decommissioned in 1861.
