 Shanty celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Cape Town’s leading traditional Irish folk band – Shanty!

Shanty comprises of Dave Williams (mandolin, fiddle, guitar), Rob Anderson (mandolin, guitar, bodhran [a traditional Irish drum]), John Bolton (pennywhistle, bodhran, keyboard) and Larry Margolis (guitar, harmonica).

The name Shanty is derived from the Irish gaelic “sean-tigh”, meaning “old house”. Early Irish immigrants to America (like the Kennedys) lived in the old parts of towns such as Boston, and so became known as “shanty-dwellers”.
