1. Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
Standing proudly at a height of approximately 12 metres, Cape Town’s tallest Christmas trees and arguably it’s most beautiful, can be found at the V&A Waterfront’s Flagpole Terrace (near the amphitheatre) and another at its Clock Tower Square. Elegantly decorated and tastefully lit, they provide the perfect place to capture magical memories.

2. Santa’s Village
…and Santa arrived by blimp. The roving eye might look skyward and it is only then that it might note the cheeky departure from reindeer lore with a fittingly decorated dirigible. With its incredible attention to detail and noteworthy craftsmanship, Santa’s Village at the V&A Waterfront is a must-see for young and old alike. And, from 15 December, have your photo taken with Santa for an affordable R85.

THRILLING RIDES
4.The Wheel of Excellence
Cape Town’s very own big wheel will stay in the city for the remainder of the summer season courtesy of the V&A Waterfront. Now situated on Market Square at the heart of action, visitors are provided with an inimitable view of South Africa’s oldest working harbour, Table Mountain and the Mother City.

5. An enchanting Venetian Carousel
Lauded as artisans for their craftsmanship, the Venetians brought us glass, gondolas and Carousels…This exquisite double decker Venetian Carousel is built in the original 1800’s fashion and is completely handmade. Its intricate murals are hand painted by Venetian artists and brought to life with no less than 1800 lights. The Brazilian oak floors house two floors of horses which move up and down, spinning teacups and dolphin chariots which sway back and forth. Naturally it rotates counter-clockwise. Merry-Go-Rounds rotate clockwise. And remember, its good luck to take a seat on the black horse, a tradition dating back some 2000 years to Roman Chariot Racing. This incredible work of art is a must-see for the entire family.

KIDDIES ACTIVITY
8. Kids Ahoy at the V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront proudly introduces Kids Ahoy, a kids only zone fun zone for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. Let the V&A entertain them while parents have time for themselves. R30 per hour for a maximum of 2 hours. Launches 12 December and runs to 08 Jan. 9am to 6pm at the Union Castle Building. Children of all ages will also be captivated with the delightful play area, featuring fantastic slides and bridges at the Market Plaza as well as fun kiddies rides dotted throughout the V&A Waterfront.

HERITAGE/HISTORIC ACTIVITIES
10. Historic Walking Tours
Adding to its diverse entertainment, retail and cultural offering, visitors to the V&A Waterfront now have the opportunity to unlock and experience the true historical richness that captures the V&A Waterfront’s legacy and significant contribution to Cape Town’s Mother City heritage, with its 22 onsite historic landmarks. The historical walking tour takes place daily, Monday to Sunday, departing from the Chavonne’s Battery at the Clock Tower Precinct. The frequency of the tours may however increase, based on demand and popularity.

Entry cost: R50.00 per adult, R20.00 per child between the age of 10 and 18, and R10.00 per learner who forms part of a school group. Children under the age of ten can join the tour for free.
Cape Town Diamond Museum
The museum captivates the essence of South African diamond history. One can explore the sparkling world of diamonds, including firsthand experience of what mining was like. Don’t miss the unique attraction of specimens dating back billions of years. Life-size replicas of famous diamonds in a visual timeline can also be viewed.
